When setting SMART goals for business there are a few things you can do to make them more likely to be reached.

Most folks have heard about SMART goals: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-dependent. Having these qualities in every goal will help make them good goals…unless.

Unless the goal is designed to make you “be” different. If you want to be more organized, a goal to “be more organized” isn’t going to help (and it isn’t even a smart goal).  So what can you do to make you more likely to reach your SMART goals? For business, or personal, goals the ideas below are sure to improve the likelihood of you succeeding.

5 Habits to make your SMART goals for business more likely to deliver results

Dig into the support you need to change: Instead, focus on the systems and habits, like time blocking or technology to help capture all your to-dos, that will inevitably lead to you being better organized.

Find community: You are far more likely to reach your goal if you share it and get someone or more than one someone to hold you accountable. Virtual co-working is a thing now and can help keep you on task.

Start a cycle: I love 90-day goal cycles. They help keep me focused on the one thing that is most relevant to my situation right now. Bigger goals can start to feel squishy, or I might decide it isn’t a goal after all if things change.

Weave it into your daily tasks: The goal should be a motivator and the inevitable outcome of the daily tasks and habits you are implementing.

Goals need resources: It’s hard to add more to an already full plate, so while you focus on this new effort, what will you let go of (or delegate) to make room in your schedule?

If you can set a 90-day goal that will produce the most result with the least effort, fits with your style and personality, know your motivating Why, schedule the daily tasks that move you forward and get someone to hold you accountable, you have a much better chance at success.
