At Moxie Bookkeeping, we believe that all businesses, large or small, are either starting to adapt to the effects of Climate Change or will be doing so soon. We see Climate Change as the most pressing issue of our time, as an existential threat to us all.
1% For The Planet
Because of this, for about a decade, Moxie Bookkeeping has donated 1% of its revenue annually to 1% for the Planet. We love 1% for the Planet as the idea behind this organization is simple and aligns with our values: “because companies profit from the resources they take from the earth, they should protect those resources.”
1% for the Planet is committed to building support in six core issue areas: climate, food, land, pollution, water, and wildlife.
What we really like best about them, though, is they are a solution-based organization.
As they say on their website: “The urgent issues facing our planet need so much more than they’re currently receiving. Today, only 3% of philanthropy goes toward environmental giving. Through our business and individual memberships, our goal is to significantly increase the overall amount of global dollars going to help protect the planet with the smartest donations possible.”
Here’s how it works:
- Join: Business members join their network, committing to donate the equivalent of 1% of gross sales through a combination of monetary, in-kind, and approved promotional support directly to environmental nonprofits.
- Advise: 1% for the Planet provides partnership advising, pairing members with environmental nonprofits that align with their values, their brand, and that make the biggest impact possible.
- Donate: Business members support their nonprofit partner(s) directly—no intermediary necessary!
- Certify: 1% for the Planet certifies all member donations—legitimizing members’ commitment by reviewing and confirming sales and donation details annually.
It’s that easy — and also incredibly effective. To date, members have invested over $250 million in environmental nonprofit solutions through the 1% for the Planet network.
